As part of the National Curriculum, Year 10 students take part in a Work Experience placement which offers an opportunity to develop career awareness, employability and functional skills in preparation for the world of work.
To prepare students for Work Experience, the Academy run a programme of activities over a period of time, linked to the Work Skills BTEC and enhanced by our online careers tool which students and parents/carers can access at home (via a unique login). The programme aims to equip students with:
The placement usually lasts for 2 weeks, during which time the student will have 1 placement contact from a Tutor or member of staff at the Academy.
Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements, time management, appearance, motivation and enthusiasm, performance of tasks, relationship building and communication with adults, safety and development.
It is a unique opportunity to see into the world of employment and understand the skills they will need in the future; many of these skills can be transferred into their education, and quite often the experience enthuses students to achieve specific goals and aspirations of further education.
The WorkSkills qualification at All Saints will provide a specialist emphasis for learners following a vocational programme of study. The course offers focused qualifications for learners, who wish to follow a short programme of study directly related to their work experience or to an aspect of employment that they wish to move into. On successful completion of these qualifications, learners may progress into or within employment and/or continue their study in the vocational area.
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate in WorkSkills has been designed to run over 1 academic year and the students can achieve the equivalent of 1 GCSE by completing this course.
