Work Experience:

As part of the National Curriculum, Year 10 students take part in a Work Experience placement which offers an opportunity to develop career awareness, employability and functional skills in preparation for the world of work.

    The Programme:

To prepare students for Work Experience, the Academy run a programme of activities over a period of time, linked to the Work Skills BTEC and enhanced by our online careers tool which students and parents/carers can access at home (via a unique login).  The programme aims to equip students with:

    • Confidence in approaching employers in the correct way
    • Understanding of job descriptions, application processes and interviews
    • Development of skills in research, communication and organisation
    • Identification of skills and interests within a careers capacity
    • Knowledge of employers’ requirements of employees
    • Understanding of Health & Safety at work
    • Understanding of Equal Opportunities
    • Receiving Feedback

    The Placement:

The placement usually lasts for 2 weeks, during which time the student will have 1 placement contact from a Tutor or member of staff at the Academy.

Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements, time management, appearance, motivation and enthusiasm, performance of tasks, relationship building and communication with adults, safety and development.

It is a unique opportunity to see into the world of employment and understand the skills they will need in the future; many of these skills can be transferred into their education, and quite often the experience enthuses students to achieve specific goals and aspirations of further education.
