    Edexcel BTEC Level 1 / 2 First Award in Sport
     

    Who is the course aimed at?
    This course provides students with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for either further education or employment in jobs and courses relating to sport, sports coaching and or leading and the health and fitness industry. To be successful on this course students need to have a keen interest in sport and physical activity and be prepared to work as an individual as well as a team.

     

    What will I study and do?
    You will complete four units of work relating to the Sport sector and this will complete the First Award.
    Units include:
    • The Mind and Sports Performance
    • Fitness for Sport and Exercise
    • Practical Sports Performance
    • Leading Sports Activities

     

    How the course is assessed?
    Assessment is 75% written coursework and 25% examination.  Three of the units are assessed internally through assignments and coursework. One unit is an external on-screen examination.

     

    What jobs and careers can this lead to?
    The BTEC in Sport (Edexcel) allows progression to higher level vocational qualifications such as the Level 3 BTEC course in Sport or to an apprenticeship within the sports and fitness sector.
    Examples of careers that this qualification can lead to include: fitness instructor, sports coach, sports leader, school games organiser, PE teacher, PE technician, sports therapist, sports masseur.

    Course title
    Edexcel BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport
     

    Who is the course aimed at?
    Students who have an interest in working in the sport sectors

     

    Entry Requirements
    Grade D or above in English and Maths at GCSE

     

    What will I study and do?
    In order to achieve the National Diploma both years must be completed, students are not able to take a one year alternative. Students complete ten units covering a range of different topics.

     

    Examples of units include:
    • Instructing Gym-based Exercise
    • Anatomy and Physiology
    • Sports Injury Management

     

    How is the course assessed?
    Eight of the units are assessed internally through assignments and coursework. One unit is an external written examination and one further unit is a scenario task completed in the style of a controlled assessment.

     

    What jobs and careers can this lead to?
    Examples of careers that this qualification can lead to include: PE teacher, fitness instructor, coach, sports leader, gym instructor, leisure management, leisure and recreational assistant or PE technician.
